I have bullet points in our playbook that I review with our team each year. One of them is: "Keep your family out of your playing career." I don't say, "Keep them out of your life;" I say, "Keep them out of your playing career?

These young players want to be treated like young men. I tell them: "If you want to be treated like an adult, it's your responsibility to communicate your playing status to your parents." If a player wants his parents to call me to talk about playing time, that's fine. I'll be sure to call him out in front of the squad ...
