HOUSTON TEXANS
With Jason Babin (labrum) possibly out for the season, LOLB Shantee Orr finally has the chance he has been waiting for. The team likes Orr's work ethic, explosiveness and long arms. In limited opportunities, Orr has shown a knack for making big plays, something the defense is starving for.... LILB Morion Greenwood has adapted well to the 3-4 scheme and is the team's third-leading tackler. Though Greenwood (6-0,238) is undersized, he has great leverage to go with good quickness, speed and explosiveness.... The team initially had improved its red zone defense, limiting opponents to five touchdowns in their first 14 red zone possessions. But the unit dropped off against the Titans, allowing them to score touchdowns on all four of their trips inside the 20. PROBLEM SPOT: The offense has regressed in most areas, but third downs have been the biggest stumbling block. The Texans have converted only 30.6 percent of third downs and struggle in third-and-long situations because the passing game has been weak and defenses have had success blitzing on third downs.--Megan Manfull
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
The team had to start rookie OT Khalif Barnes long before it wanted to, mainly because the left side of the line has struggled mightily. Barnes has good size (6-5,305), but his technique needs improvement, and there have been questions about his work ethic. Barnes had two personal foul penalties against the Bengals; otherwise, he played well as the team rushed for 181 yards and didn't allow a sack.... If Barnes continues to hold up, the team will be able to get the tight ends more involved as receivers. They have only nine catches combined because of the need to use Kyle Brady in pass protection. PROBLEM SPOT: The run defense, once the team's top strength, has become a weakness. Poor linebacker play appears to be the culprit. Mike Peterson, Akin Ayodele and Daryl Smith are allowing too many second-effort rushing yards. To shore up the area, the team traded for OLB Jamie Winborn. When healthy, Winborn is a speedy playmaker. He soon could replace Ayodele.--Bart Hubbuch
