The global market for polycarbonate (PC) has been growing strongly since mid-2004. Consumption is out-stripping growth in capacities. Polycarbonate blends and film are becoming increasingly important, especially in IT and the automotive segment. Global consumption of engineering plastics amounted to ca 15 M tonnes in 2004. PC accounted for 17% or around 2.5 M tonnes (including blends). PC consumption grew by between 8-9% during the last few years and is predicted to reach around 2.7 M tonnes in 2005.
