The processes used to process low density polyethylene have been well established for many years. Co-extrusion processes have continued to gain importance in the manufacture of LDPE film. During 2001-2004 W European consumption increased by 1.7%/y to 7.4 M tonnes. Demand for LDPE decreased by around 1%/y whereas consumption of LLDPE rose by ca 6.5%/y. The European LDPE production capacity decreased from 5.7 M tonnes in 2001 to 5.55 M tonnes in 2004, leading to a satisfactory capacity utilisation.
