Travis County, Texas, officials have approved a $22 million debt issue that will fund new voting equipment for the City of Austin and surrounding cities. An election study group estimated that the proposed new voting system could save the county between $89,000 and $140,000 per election in operation costs. As a result, the price tag for elections would come down because the county would not have to pay to print ballots or hire as many people to run polling locations and count votes.
