SEOUL, April 2 Asia Pulse - The Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) Monday completed spin off of six power generating firms, the Commerce, Industry and Energy Ministry said.
The ministry said KEPCO's power generating unit has been spun off into six power generating companies including the thermal power companies Southeast Power Co., Central Region Power Co., West Region Power Co., Southern Region Power Co., Southeast Power Co. and a nuclear power generation company. Registration of the companies as separate entities has been completed, it added.
Procedures to set up a power exchange have also been completed, the ministry said.
Electricity will be traded in the Korea Power Exchange (KPX) between KEPCO and its subsidiaries. But from 2003, the power distribution company will buy power from the power generating companies and sell it to consumers.
