WASHINGTON, April 2 Asia Pulse - The United States government released an annual report to Congress Friday that listed for the first time corruption and e-commerce as trade barriers in Taiwan.
The "Foreign Trade Barriers" report, prepared by the U.S. Trade Representative Office, covers three trading blocs and 52 separate economies.
The 471-page report, ten pages of which are dedicated to Taiwan, details trade barriers in 11 major areas ranging from agriculture to intellectual property rights and e-commerce.
"We need to build support for open trade," U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick said in a statement accompanying the report. "That means publicizing the existence of trade barriers in foreign markets and working with our trading partners to eliminate them."
