Friendly advice
Just a note to say that after I read your wise words about the new TV show Some of My Best Friends ["Friends Indeed," March 13], I was encouraged to watch it last night, and thanks to you, I am still laughing. Though it was not an in-your-face gay show, it had even more comic lines than the old play Norman ... Is That You? Thanks for your encouragement to view this great sitcom. I hope it will run for years.

Watching the second episode of Some of My Best Friends made me think not so much of The Odd Couple or Will & Grace but a really good episode of Bewitched--my favorite sitcom growing up. Darrin (Frankie) couldn't let the guests know that his wife, Samantha (Warren), was different from everyone else. And then Serena/Uncle Arthur/ Endora shows up in the form of Vern. But you know the difference today is that by the end of the show they're able to be honest about who they are.
Yes, Frankie's friends are crude and vulgar, but they talk like real people, and so do Frankie, Warren, and especially Vern. I am so tired of people complaining about every gay person on TV, from Richard Hatch to Will and Jack to the boys on Queer as...
