`In a sports world full of whiny, greedy and inflated egos, it was refreshing to hear Mark McGwire's recent comments on players' contracts and about the way the game should be played.'

A weak defense
In your February 26th issue, John Brennan wrote a piece entitled "The Real Sprewell," wherein he attempts to rebut Latrell Sprewell's reputation. This defense of Sprewell is disingenuous and outrageous. Let us set the record straight. Sprewell attacked his coach, and his bad character has reared its ugly head in many other ways. What a fine role model for kids.
In the end, Brennan writes that Sprewell is not a good guy or a bad guy, just human. Nice try, but you cannot defend the indefensible. Sprewell is a bad guy became he choked his coach and never once demonstrated any remorse.
