How much can you safely carry? A vehicle's load-carrying capacity is the maximum combined weight of people and cargo that it's designed to carry safely. Unfortunately, you can unknowingly overload some models because although they have a large cargo area, they have a relatively low load capacity. Overloading can affect handling, and stress tires and brakes. Many automakers don't provide this information for light trucks, SUVs, or minivans in the way they do for cars (on a door-jamb sticker). To help, we provide the load capacity for every model we test. The figures below are for tested models that are basically the same as versions now on sale. For other versions, use this list only as a rough guide. Load capacity for a given model can vary, depending on a vehicle's trim level, model year, and optional equipment.
