Eighteenth-century Italian painting is held in special affection in France, and French museums have particularly fine and comprehensive holdings of works in this category. The French tourist in Italy had taste different from his English counterpart; thus the works of this period in French museums show another aspect of Italian art of the eighteenth century than can be found in England. An exhibition of more than one hundred Italian works from French museums is on view at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille, France, until April 30.
