TOKYO, May 1 Asia Pulse - Honda Motor Co. (TSE:7267) expects its global auto sales will rise 5 per cent to 2.71 million units in the year through March 2002, the automaker said Friday. In particular, domestic sales are likely to grow 7 per cent to a record 830,000 units, while U.S. sales are seen rising 1.8 per cent to a record 1.37 million units.
The company will maintain its group capital spending at a lofty 290 billion yen (US$2.35 billion) to boost production capacity. It will use the money to build new plants in the U.S. and U.K. and update overseas manufacturing facilities.
In North America, where Honda generates about 70 per cent of its operating profit, the firm will launch new models of its popular vehicles, such as the CR-V small off-road vehicle and the Integra subcompact.
