WASHINGTON, May 1 Asia Pulse - The US government has reacted favourably to Australia's proposal to free-up trade barriers between the two countries, treasurer Peter Costello said.
Mr Costello said the proposed free trade agreement was discussed with US president George W Bush's administration during his visit to Washington DC.
"I think there have been encouraging responses from the administration," Mr Costello told a press conference.
"Obviously, it is going to take time. If the president has a freer hand on trade matters, I think that would be good for us and I think it would be good for the United States as well."
Mr Costello is in Washington for the four-day World Bank-International Monetary Fund spring meetings.
He returns to Australia ...
