One week into last season and the Rays were without their top two starters -- Wilson Alvarez and Juan Guzman. Both were lost for the year with shoulder injuries.

The injuries blindsided the rotation, and it wasn't until June that a recovery took place.

Alvarez, in the fourth year of a five-year, $35 million contract, is expected to start the season on the disabled list for the second straight year. Guzman is likely to join him. However, this season the Rays are more prepared.

Albie Lopez, Paul Wilson and Bryan Rekar are expected to open the season as the top three starters. Ryan Rupe, and probably Travis Harper, …
