The Federal Insurance Administration has commended the North Carolina Department of Insurance for its initiative to promote the purchase of flood insurance by North Carolina property owners.
The FIA, which administers the National Flood Insurance Program within the Federal Emergency Management Agency, cited the North Carolina Department of Insurance for its initiative to promote the purchase of flood insurance to North Carolina property owners and the department's support of the federal flood insurance program.
Examples of the North Carolina Department of Insurance's support include:
*Continuing education classes for NFIP insurance agents were waived after Hurricane Floyd.
*Press releases were issued about the coming spring flood and hurricane seasons. In addition, a press release, "Don't Be Fooled About Flood Insurance," was developed with assistance from the FIA.
*A bulletin was issued asking insurers to notify policyholders whose policy does not cover the perils of floods about the availability of flood insurance.
