Mid America Financial Investment Corp., a company accused of defrauding borrowers and working without both a mortgage broker's and banker's license, continues to be investigated.
The company's president, Elena Hollingshead, and secretary, Scott W. Bloemer, are being charged with involvement in three pending cases for "the crime of theft by deception by a scheme to defraud the original owners from their real property," according to the Douglas County, Neb. Attorney's office.
Several unsuccessful attempts were made to contact Ms. Hollingshead's criminal attorney, Mike Fabian, with the law firm of Fabian & Thielan, Omaha, and Mr. Bloemer's criminal attorney, Steve Achelpohl, a private practitioner in Omaha.
There is a preliminary hearing set for April 10 at the County Court of Douglas County.
In the three cases, the alleged victims made similar accusations.
In one case, the alleged victim accused Mid America of "deceiving" her into signing several papers, which resulted in the loss of ownership of her residence. The value of that residence is $77,000, according to an affidavit by Deputy P.S. Thomas, with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
The affidavit further states that the victim was $4,295 behind on her mortgage payments with WMC Mortgage Corp., Woodland Hills, Calif.
