Vehicles and equipment.

* '99-00 Chevrolet and GMC pickup trucks and sport-utility vehicles Brake pipe could leak fluid, resulting in increased stopping distances.

Models: 1,383,922 vehicles, including '99-00 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, '00 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and '00 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.

What to do: Have dealer inspect front right-hand brake pipe for wear from contact with body. If signs of wear exist, dealer will install redesigned section of pipe. In the absence of wear, spacer clip should be installed to maintain adequate clearance between brake pipe and body cross sill.

* '99-00 Ford Contour, Mercury Mystique, and Cougar

Rear wheels could lock up during braking, hampering steering ability and increasing risk of crash.

Models: 186,200 cars with standard (not antilock) brakes, made 8/98 to 3/00. Pressure-conscious reducing valve (PCRV) in rear brakes could corrode and malfunction when operated in areas where road salt is used.
