Rebates paid to businesses for installing 'cool roofs'

Owners of flat-roofed commercial buildings hoping to shave down their air conditioning bills this summer can take advantage of "cool roof" installation rebates offered by the Sacramento Municipal Utility District and the Sacramento Tree Foundation.

SMUD estimates that 60 percent of commercial and multifamily buildings in Sacramento meet the program criteria.
