TAIPEI, June 1 Asia Pulse - Taiwan's Cabinet has agreed to allow local banks to set up representative offices in mainland China on the condition that their operations are confined to market surveying and consulting.
In an announcement after the Wednesday Cabinet meeting, the Ministry of Finance said that any local bank applying to establish mainland representative offices must meet the following requirements:
-- No serious infringements by the bank have been found over the past three years;
-- The bank's net assets must rank in the top 10 among local monetary institutions;
-- Its capital adequacy ratio (CAR) must be at least 8 percent;
