TOKYO, June 1 Asia Pulse - Eight companies will compete for contracts to develop new patrol and transport planes for the Defense Agency, the companies said Thursday.
The projects mark the first time in 30 years that large aircraft are to be developed in Japan, with submissions due by the end of July.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (TSE:7011), Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. (TSE:7012), Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (TSE:7270), ShinMaywa Industries Ltd. (TSE:7224), Japan Aircraft Mfg. Co. (TSE:7407), Jamco Corp. (TSE:7408), Showa Aircraft Industry Co. (TSE:7404) and Shinko Electric Co. (TSE:6507) will vie for contracts.
