TAIPEI, June 1 Asia Pulse - Relations between Taiwan and Mainland China are more stable now than they in previous years and Taipei-Washington ties have improved significantly as well, said Premier Chang Chun-hsiung.
The welcome that the United States government accorded to President Chen Shui-bian last week during a three-day, two-night transit stop in New York on his way to Latin America showed that US-ROC ties were improved, Chang said.
Chang added that cross-strait relations are more stable today than in previous years when the Chinese People's Liberation Army held missile tests off Taiwan in 1996 and then-President Lee Teng-hui redefined cross-strait relations as "special state-to-state" in nature in 1999.
The premier made the remarks while meeting with Richard S. Fuld, Jr., global chairman of the New York-based Lehman Brothers -- the fifth-largest investment bank and fund managing group in the world.
