IRVINE, Calif., May 31 PRNewswire-AsiaNet - QUANTUM Technologies, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of IMPCO Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: IMCO) announced today that it had developed a state-of-the-art hydrogen storage system for a SunLine Transit Agency public transit bus.
QUANTUM also provided system integration expertise by installing the 12-hydrogen tank roof-mount system at QUANTUM's Advanced Technology Center in Irvine, CA.
Upon completion of the system integration, the bus was driven 95 miles back to SunLine's facilities in Thousand Palms, CA.

SunLine selected QUANTUM to replace the existing compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system on the bus with QUANTUM's ultra-lightweight all-composite, polymer-lined, Type IV "TriShield" hydrogen storage tanks. The system was developed to meet the challenging requirements of a hydrogen and natural gas fuel blend used by SunLine in its Hythane(R)-powered bus. SunLine views Hythane(R) as a practical and viable bridge from CNG vehicles to zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.
The addition of a small quantity of hydrogen dramatically reduces CNG's already-low emissions. QUANTUM's polymer-lined storage tanks are ideally suited for SunLine's Hythane(R)-powered bus because the tanks are not susceptible to the corrosive nature of hydrogen blend fuels.
