Products: 14,800 ranges sold 9/99 to 4/00 for $400 to $1,300. Suspect ranges have model numbers CGS1230, CGS1740, CGS3760, MGS5770, and MGS5870. Recalled units also bear serial numbers ending in WU, WW, WY, WZ, YB, YF, and YH. Model and serial designations are located on plate behind front of roll-out storage drawer. "Maytag" or "Magic Chef" name appears on front of range.
What to do: Stop using broil or self-clean functions. Owners of recalled ranges will be informed by mail that device needs to be inspected and, if necessary, repaired. Repairs will be made free. For information, call Maytag customer service at 800 544-2538 or visit www.maytag.com.
