Despite financial woes and an uncertain future, The Alpha Center held its first graduation Wednesday night.
Marylou Ferraro, principal of the troubled Charlotte County charter school, handed out diplomas to Jeremiah Davis, Erik Keeler, Nicole Rescigno and Thomas Wondergem in an emotional ceremony in the school library.
As friends and parents watched, the graduates spoke briefly about their education at Alpha, which serves students who haven't been successful in traditional school settings.
Although the school opened in August 1999, it didn't have any graduates last year.
