The City of Springdale, Arkansas, has developed a five-phase program to identify and reduce liability risks. The first phase was to adopt a set of policies related to risk management. These policies included a requirement that new employees receive a safety orientation and a briefing on key policies such as sexual harassment. Other policies included requirements for employees who are involved in accidents, requirements of supervisors when an on-the-job injury occurs, requirements for the use of safety equipment, and record-keeping requirements for employee injuries. In the second phase, a representative from the city attorney's office holds individual meetings with each department head.
