Who's better, Sacramento's Predrag Stojakovic or Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki?
When David Stern scans the globe, he sees a billion potential consumers. When the Kings and the Mavericks look outside the United States, they see future All-Stars.
Combine Stern's high-tech marketing with good old-fashioned scouting, and the NBA is on its way to becoming a truly global game.
In Sacramento and Dallas, the teams already have an international feel. The Kings start two Europeans and have a third who will be hard to keep out of the lineup next season. The Mavericks have a German, the league's first player from China and a Canadian who at least had the benefit of playing for a U.S. college team.
Of all the international players in the league, none has a better future than the Kings' Predrag Stojakovic and the Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki. Both enjoyed breakout regular seasons and made it through to the second round of the playoffs.
