WEIGHT WATCH: Rookie RB Dan Alexander, who was fullback-sized at a chiseled 255 pounds when the Titans had the rookie class in for workouts, wants to lose about 10 pounds before returning for minicamps and training camp. Because Alexander, a sixth-round pick, doesn't have much experience in the passing game, he wants to show better footwork in pass mutes.... LB Keith Adams, a seventh-rounder, made a good impression in the rookies workouts. He looked smooth in drills and impressed the team with his attitude. If Adams shows some fire on special teams, he'll have a good shot to make the team.

WIDE RECEIVERS ANALYSIS: Derrick Mason, who didn't know whether he would be even the fifth receiver a year ago, is the only player at the position without a question mark. Mason now is the No. 1 guy, and he'll get increased attention. Though slightly undersized, he's fearless, gets to the right spots, has good hands and runs well in traffic. The club needs at least two more players to step up. Kevin Dyson is coming off a severe knee injury and probably won't be more than a part-time player at the season's start. Chris Sanders has physical gifts but can't seem to turn those into consistent performance. Draft picks Justin McCareins and Eddie Berlin will find there is playing time for those who show they can move the ball. --Jeff Legwold

DAVIS AT GUARD? Coach Dave McGinnis hasn't decided where to play Leonard Davis, the second overall pick in last month's draft, but he's leaning toward right guard. Davis was a left tackle in college, but L.J. Shelton is the starter there and isn't crazy about moving to guard. So Davis played right guard in the team's minicamp.... The defensive line needs rebuilding, and assistant Joe Greene is encouraged by the increased competitiveness of the group. The Cardinals drafted three defensive linemen, DE Kyle Vanden Bosch and DTs Marcus Bell and Marie Fatafehi, and all could play significant roles.

WIDE RECEIVERS ANALYSIS: David Boston, Rob Moore and Frank Sanders should make this one of the league's best units, but we've heard that before. The club wanted to build its offense around the receivers in 2000, but that plan was scuttled when Moore suffered a season-ending knee injury last August. Moore is on schedule to be ready by the start of training camp in July. A healthy Moore would be a huge boost. Boston made great progress last season, his second in the NFL, and likely will remain a starter. With Boston and Moore, QB Jake Plummer has two deep threats. Sanders dropped too many passes last year. MarTay Jenkins is one of the fastest players in the league, but his receiving skills are raw. --Kent Somers
