HARD TO PART WITH: The Hawks player who has the most trade value likely is SF Toni Kukoc. At 6-10, he can play in the low post, shoot from the perimeter and take defenders off the dribble. Better yet, he is a quality passer who makes his teammates better. All that is why the team would rather keep Kukoc around. Coach Lon Kruger envisions a lineup of Kukoc, PF Lorenzen Wright, C Theo Ratliff and PG Jason Terry. The fifth starter, at point guard, remains unknown. If it takes trading Kukoc to get a floor leader, it might happen.
ON DISPLAY: Terry will play for the United States in the Goodwill Games, the kind of accolade he deserves considering how quickly he blossomed. The experience this summer will wear on Terry's already frail body, but it will be invaluable in terms of his confidence and on-court experience. He must build up his body. A stronger Terry would be one of the most dynamic young players in the league. --Curtis Bunn

GOOD MOVE: The team's owners did the right thing by retaining coach Jim O'Brien. O'Brien was more than a popular choice. Judging from the way the players responded to him after he took over, he was also the best choice. Many of the players did not want to start over and build new relationships with a new coach. O'Brien worked extensively with the players on an individual level during his time as an assistant.... While the team must address needs at point guard and also would like to add a consistent scorer, the Celtics will go into the draft with a talent-first philosophy.
PALACIO SHOULD RETURN: The clear winner in the point-guard sweepstakes was Milt Palacio, who played to the best of his abilities, gained confidence as the season went on and showed promising upside. As a result, he should be around next season. The clear loser was Kenny Anderson, who finished the season on the injured list contemplating the benefits of an offseason trade. --Shira Springer
