TOKYO, July 2 Asia Pulse - The Fair Trade Commission on Friday ordered Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. (TSE:6752) to stop pressuring its wholesalers not to sell its products to discount retailers, claiming the practice violates the Anti-Monopoly Law.
The industry watchdog believes the consumer electronics giant used pressure to protect its 20,000 affiliated retail agents nationwide.
The FTC estimates that between January 1998 and October 2000, Matsushita and 31 of its affiliated retailers jointly pushed some wholesalers not to sell Matsushita products to discount stores, which were selling the products at an average of 30% off Matsushita's suggested retail prices, ...
