TOKYO, July 2 Asia Pulse - Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on Friday expressed strong determination to exercise leadership in formulating the budget for fiscal 2002.
In formulating the budget, "I'll never fail to abide by the policies set by the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy," Koizumi said at a press conference immediately after the close of the regular Diet session earlier in the day.
He also indicated plans to cut budget spending even in such "sacred cow" areas as public works projects, saying, "Without an all-out review of government spending, it'll be difficult" to honor the pledge he earlier made to cap annual government bond issuance at 30 trillion yen.
