BANGKOK, July 2 Asia Pulse - Highlights of today's newspapers:

THE BANGKOK POST

- It used to be said that a job with the Siam Cement Group was a job for life. In a sense, that has been true, even during the worst of the recession.

- Quality standards for biodiesel fuel are likely to be in place soon, following a meeting of key energy planners today.

- Economic growth in the second quarter is likely to contract from last year's high base, the National Economic and Social Development Board has warned.

- Government policymakers have made little secret of their desire to have state banks take a leading role in making new loans to revive the economy.

- Most analysts agree that over the past three years, commercial banks, with prodding from regulators, have made significant strides in improving their operations and efficiency.
