The Office for Standards in Education today released four reports on aspects of teacher training and development. The reports cover: - in-service training courses for teachers; - subject specialist courses in primary initial teacher training; - the induction of newly qualified teachers during their first year after qualifying; - the employment, deployment and impact of advanced skills teachers.

The report In-service Postgraduate Training Courses for Teachers is based on 84 providers granted funding by the Teacher Training Agency for the in-service training of established teachers. The inspection of 207 courses focused on the identification of needs, the quality and impact of training, and quality assurance.

At least 80 per cent of provision in these aspects was judged to be of good or very good quality. Judgements were based on the following criteria:...
