The draft these days is a lot different from when I signed in 1989. That was the first year that each first rounder got offered $100,000.

Nowadays, it's unreal to see what these guys get for signing. Just about everybody in the first round gets at least $1.5 million. By spending that much money, teams will do everything they can to get first-round picks to the majors. If a team's top pick doesn't make it, that team looks pretty bad, so a first-rounder definitely has a better chance to get to the big leagues than a guy in the later rounds.
