DALLAS MAVERICKS: C Shawn Bradley says he would be exploring the possibility of playing for the German national team even if SF Dirk Nowitzki wasn't a key component of the German roster. Bradley, who was born in Landstuhl, Germany, always has wanted to play in the Olympics but knows he would never make the U.S. roster. He didn't realize until recently he could claim German citizenship. Bradley's grandmother is German, and his grandfather lived there most of his life. Germany will have to qualify for the Olympics at the 2002 World Championships. A front line with Nowitzki and Bradley makes that possibility much more realistic. --Mike McAllister
DENVER NUGGETS: Assistant coach John Lucas is back in the mix for the Cavaliers' job and expects to be a candidate for the Trail Blazers' job, but Lucas could wind up staying with the Nuggets, too. Coach/president Dan Issel says his assistants--all of whom were in the final year of their contracts last season--will sign two-year extensions. Only Lucas remains officially under contract, and his deal runs through September. But with two years left on his own contract as coach and president, Issel says it's important to have his assistants under contract for at least that long. --Michael BeDan
