Four days later, he laid a 6-0 goose egg on the Brooklyn Dodgers.
The Reds lefthander is the only pitcher in major league history to throw back-to-back no-hitters.
In 1938 (15-10, 3.12), he was in the second year of a 13-season career that was interrupted for two seasons by World War II. He won at least 15 games five times and finished with a record of 119-121 with a 3.44 ERA.
