CHARLOTTE COUNTY -- Now that the School Board has closed Charlotte County's only charter school, the Alpha Center, the district must decide what to do with 160 students who struggled in public schools.

On Tuesday, the board voted unanimously to dissolve its charter with the 2-year-old school, citing its $1.3 million debt and failure to deliver sufficient information about curriculum and academic standards.

It's too soon to tell how many of Alpha's students -- who come from Charlotte, DeSoto and Sarasota counties -- will go back into public schools. Some parents may choose to teach their…
