CNA Specialist program has resulted in 100% retention
The San Francisco-based American Society on Aging and Canada's Extendicare Foundation, Markham, Ontario, recently recognized NewCourtland Inc. for its innovations in recruiting, retaining and training nursing aides.
The organization, which consists of six nursing homes located in Philadelphia, received an award for its Ladder of Opportunity program, which was started in 1998 as part of its PRIDE program, which stands for Provide Respect, Incentives, (Career) Development and Education.
The Ladder of Opportunity program consists of several career levels, the lowest being a nursing aide. After nursing aides have been with the nursing home for a year, they are encouraged to complete a course on their role in the facility.
Upon successful completion, they move to the level of CNA II. Once there, they are encouraged to advance to the position of CNA Specialist.
