If you want to increase productivity, training is the answer -- and it should be far broader than traditional Continuing Professional Education.

Every hour that is spent in training saves five hours, according to a recent study that was conducted by technology industry analysts The Gartner Group, of Stamford, Conn. That means that if you spend 40 hours in training annually, you gain 200 hours of increased capacity or time off.

And not surprising, partners are the ones who need training the most. Yet, most partners work too many hours to be either creative or productive. Remember: What you don't know will hurt you. That means directing increased attention to training is of paramount importance. But you must have written standards, policies and procedures for training to be effective, and partners must commit to playing as a team.
