Two exhibitions, one in London and the other in Antwerp, explore notions of childhood. At the Dulwich Picture Gallery in London the exhibition entitled Murillo: Scenes of Childhood is devoted to the paintings of Barolome Esteban Murillo. Best known for his devotional works, he had a flourishing career providing pictures for the religious buildings in his native Seville, and in 1655 be was proclaimed the best painter there. His portrayal of holy infancy was particularly lifelike and sympathetic, and these qualities carried through to his depiction of children in genre pictures. The exhibition, which opens on February 14, is on view until May 13. The curators are Peter Cherry and Xanthe Brooke, who edited the catalogue to the show. It maybe ordered by telephoning 44-20-8693-5254.
