Tempted to save with off-brand refills or by refilling cartridges yourself with ink-and-syringe kits? Be careful. Printer warranties often exclude coverage for damage deemed to have occurred from third-party refills.
So where are the deals on ink? Printer manufacturers aren't exactly giving things away. You can save 25 percent or more off the prices on manufacturers' web sites by browsing comparison-shopping sites such as www.shopper.com and www.computershopper.com. You can also pay quite a bit more by choosing unwisely, as the chart shows. Once you have an idea about reasonable prices, also try brick-and-mortar office-supply chains in your area, or your local warehouse club.
