James A. Guest, chair of Consumers Union's board of directors for 21 years, has been named CU's new president and the publisher of CONSUMER REPORTS.

Guest, 60, was the unanimous choice of board members after an extensive national search. Originally a member of the board's search committee, he was a late entry in the process, agreeing to be considered for the position only after several board members approached him.

The board said he possesses a unique combination of the business acumen and the leadership necessary to guide an organization that encompasses everything from testing to consumer advocacy to publishing--both in print and online.
