The attractive young media executive had a question that gave even the articulate Huyshe Bower pause to thought. "Do you have an old port that tastes of chocolate?" queried Lina Yong, from the Shanghai-based student Web site univerciti.com.
It was the sort of question that came quite often during the recent small but successful China Wine 2000 show.
Bower, vicepresident of Taylor's Port, who has been selling wine in Asia for decades, rose to the occasion. "Try this, my dear," he said, proffering a glass of old and richly-scented port.
"Very nice," said Yong.
That summed up the reaction of both exhibitors and potential buyers at the show. The winemakers and exporters from Australia, South Africa, France and Italy who invested the time and money to visit and display their products said it was worthwhile.
"I'm very pleased," Marius Roux of the South African winery of Somersbosch said. "The quality of visitors has been very high. I think it's been a successful show." Like other producers, he was pleased by the knowledge...
