Thirty years ago, a young executive at Continental Can named Reginald Powe made a discovery that would change his life. After finding out that a number of the company's workers were illiterate, he began researching how people learn to read. He then used those insights to launch the manufacturer's first-ever adult reading program.
That, says Mr. Powe, is when the education bug bit him.
Shortly thereafter, he quit the corporate world and launched an entrepreneurial career in education.
