Jodi Spitler went for broke last week at Cafe Metro on Lexington Avenue and East 46th Street. She told the counter guy at the deli to add more toppings to her tossed-to-order salad.
She didn't care that each additional scoop of corn or shredded carrots cost 50 cents, as long as the finished product was tasty, fresh and quick.
But when her tab topped $8, the Manhattan wine merchant was taken aback. ``Prices are getting ridiculous,'' says Ms. Spitler. ``But I like good food too much, so for now I'm going to suck it up.''
