Nearly three-quarters of parents today say they are more involved in their children's education than their own parents were. Parents far more than teachers are thought to have the greatest effect on a student's level of achievement. Most parents believe that a student from a stable family who goes to a poor school is more likely to succeed than one who comes from a troubled family and goes to a good school. People think the federal government has too much influence in the public schools in their community.
