LAS VEGAS -- You may think of perioral dermatitis as an adult-only disease, but it affects children as well, Patricia M. Witman, M.D., said at a dermatology seminar sponsored by the Skin Disease Education Foundation. "Perioral dermatitis is one of those entities that can really make the dermatologist look like a hero, because all too often it is misdiagnosed by people who are nondermatologists," said Dr. Witman of the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. "When it's misdiagnosed, they're often given things like topical steroids, and things continue to worsen."
