SEOUL, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - Cheil Jedang stands to benefit greatly from mad cow disease fears in Europe, because the scare has greatly increased demands for its animal growth catalyst, Lysine.
The company said Thursday the price of the product has more than doubled in Europe, going from $1,200 per ton to $2,500 or $2,600 per ton. About 40 percent of the product sales are made in the region.
They expect the price of Lysine to reach $3,000 per ton in one or two months because of the fear that the epidemic will spread to other regions. The company projects that shipments of the product to Europe will increase to $70 million this year alone.
