MANILA, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was informed Wednesday by former President Fidel V. Ramos that her assumption to the presidency has raised investors' confidence in the Philippines.
In a courtesy call in Malacanang, the former president reported to President Macapagal-Arroyo that the recent "People Power II" and the peaceful transfer of power in the Philippines became a special focus of interest among the participants in the recently-concluded World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
"High hopes were expressed by many WEF participants for the Philippines on the basis of a successful and peaceful transfer of power. There was renewed confidence that again the country would be attractive to prospective investors," Mr. Ramos informed the President.
President Macapagal-Arroyo has sent the former president to be her special representative to the WEF, a gathering of 1,500 government leaders, CEOs, experts, scholars and investors from around the world.
Mr. Ramos said the Davos audience welcomed the swift and peaceful change in the leadership of the country and are hopeful that the reforms will be consistently pursued by the Macapagal-Arroyo administration, to include the acceleration of privatization and ...
