SINGAPORE, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - SingTel and five other regional telecommunications carriers have built the first overland cable linking China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

The China-Southeast Asia Cable spanning 7,000 km across the six countries will carry commercial traffic from 1 February 2001, Singtel said in a statement..

It said the cable will be used as diversity for international leased circuit, Internet and voice services that are carried on existing submarine cables such as APCN and SEA-ME-WE 3.

The China-Southeast Asia Cable will also provide connectivity to other major cable systems such as the China-US cable network via some of its strategic landing points.
