MANILA, Feb 1 Asia Pulse - Newly inaugurated President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has address the housing crisis in the country with series of new directives.
During her first public consultation with the poor at the National Government Center-Medium Rise Complex in Quezon City, the President also laid down three principles that she said would serve as guidelines in the implementation of her administration's anti-poverty program.
In one of her directives, the President ordered a comprehensive inventory of all government properties and the identification of properties that can be given to the poor for their housing needs.
She said the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council will identify the whereabouts of these government properties which may be given to the poor.
The President also directed a temporary halt in the demolition of squatter colonies, particularly in the Pasig River Rehabilitation Program site, the North and South Railway, the National Government Center, the C-5 and R-10 project sites and areas where flood control projects are being undertaken.
